Now, let’s talk about procrastination. Specifically, why you’re doing it, how it’s holding you back, and what you can do to break the cycle and start taking real, aligned action.
The Hidden Faces of Procrastination
Procrastination isn’t always about lounging on the couch watching Netflix. Sometimes, it’s sneaky. It shows up as “procrasti-branding” (constantly tweaking your logo or website), endless research, or feeling like you need more qualifications before you can move forward. These are all just ways we keep ourselves from taking the action we know we need to take.
Seeking External Validation
This is a biggie. So many entrepreneurs give up their power by constantly seeking external validation. You know the feeling—waiting for someone else to say your idea is good before you move forward. It’s normal to want input, but relying on it is dangerous. No one knows your business, vision, or strengths like you do. Trust yourself and your path. Your journey is unique, and trying to follow someone else’s exact steps will only lead to frustration and stagnation.
The Illusion of Productivity
Endless research and course-hopping can feel productive, but it’s often just a way of avoiding real action. This cycle gives you a dopamine hit that makes you feel like you’re moving forward when you’re actually stuck. Trust me, I’ve been there. Learning is great, but at some point, you have to stop consuming and start creating.
How to Reclaim Your Power and Stop Procrastinating
- Embrace Imperfection: You don’t need all the answers or the perfect plan to start. The universe isn’t set up that way! You’re supposed to take messy, imperfect action and trust that the next right step will appear. Remember, the way you get there is the right way for you.
- Tune Into Your Intuition: Connect with your higher self and trust your instincts. If something feels aligned, act on it, even if it’s not what a book or course suggests. In Becoming Her Collective, I’ve created a guided visualization to help you meet your higher self. This exercise is a game-changer for tuning into your intuition.
- Stop Waiting for Permission: You don’t need external validation or the perfect timing to start. You have permission to begin now. I started my business with no qualifications, no money, and no resources—just my story and my experience. And that’s enough. Don’t wait for someone to tell you you’re ready. You are ready.
- Choose the Right Support: Coaches and mentors are guides, not gurus. A good coach will help you trust yourself and your vision, not just hand you a one-size-fits-all formula. Be careful with who you share your dreams and breakthroughs with, because not everyone is in the right headspace to support you. Your coach should empower you, not project their fears onto you.
- Take Empowered Action: Awareness is the first step, but action is what breaks the cycle. You don’t need to have it all figured out to start. If you’re caught in the loop of procrastination, commit to taking one small, scary step forward. Whether it’s launching that new offer, reaching out to a potential collaborator, or investing in that course you’ve been eyeing—do it.
My Own Journey with Procrastination
I’ve been where you are. There was a time when I doubted my new business model, even though deep down I knew it was the right move. A coach I trusted even discouraged me from shifting to a membership model, saying it was risky. But I trusted myself and made the leap anyway. And guess what? It was the best decision I could have made for my business and my life.
Final Thoughts
Procrastination is a form of self-sabotage, but you can break the cycle. Recognize the pattern, take your power back, and start taking real, aligned action today. And remember, you don’t need to have it all figured out. Just start. You have everything you need inside of you.
