Hello, everyone! Today, we’re diving deep into a topic that’s pivotal for personal transformation—setting the right kind of goals by aligning them with your subconscious programming. This isn’t about your everyday goal setting; it’s about revolutionizing how we approach changes we want to make in our lives.

The Flaws of Traditional Goal Setting

Let’s start with a bit of a controversial statement: I am not a fan of traditional goal setting. Why? Because it often relies on sheer willpower and motivation, which can be fleeting and inconsistent. Through my journey of becoming and the methods I’ve developed and teach, I’ve learned that transformation happens more fluidly when it’s not forced.

What We Mean by “Setting the Right Goals”

When we talk about setting goals, we’re not just outlining what we want to achieve—we’re looking to understand and reprogram our subconscious mind to support these goals. Think about your subconscious as a computer operating system that runs based on the programming it has received over the years. If you want to change your outcomes, you need to update the software, so to speak.

Clarity and Direction

Setting a goal is similar to entering a destination into your GPS. It’s about having a clear direction, so you know which paths to take and which turns to avoid. Clarity in your goals means understanding not just what you want to achieve, but why it’s important to you, and how it aligns with your deeper values and your life’s vision.

From Away-Motivated to Toward-Motivated Goals

Most of us are familiar with ‘away-motivated’ goals—those fueled by a desire to move away from something undesirable. However, these goals often keep us trapped in a cycle of negativity, as they keep our focus on what we don’t want. Instead, we should aim for ‘toward-motivated’ goals, which draw us closer to something we desire, enhancing our focus on positive outcomes and possibilities.

Rewiring Our Subconscious

The real transformation work is internal and involves significant subconscious rewiring. This can be achieved through techniques like visualization, affirmations, and practicing new behaviors in small, manageable steps. These methods help to slowly but surely shift your subconscious until what once felt unfamiliar becomes a natural part of who you are.

Practical Steps for Subconscious Alignment

  1. Visualize Success: Spend time each day visualizing yourself achieving your goals. See the success as if it’s happening right now, which programs your subconscious to recognize these outcomes as familiar and safe.
  2. Reframe Your Goals: Convert any away-motivated goals into toward-motivated ones. Clearly define what you want to achieve and focus on these positive outcomes.
  3. Small Steps: Introduce small changes that align with your larger goals to gradually adjust your subconscious programming. For instance, if you aim to be more active, start with short walks, and slowly build up to more intensive exercises.
  4. Consistent Practice: Consistency is key in subconscious reprogramming. Engage daily in practices that reinforce your new programming, such as meditation, affirmations, and journaling about your progress and aspirations.
  5. Celebrate Progress: Recognize and celebrate each step you take towards your goals, no matter how small. This reinforces the positive programming and makes the journey enjoyable.
